Google Ads Is Giving Advertisers a Better Look at What AI Is Actually Doing
Google Ads is becoming increasingly powered by artificial intelligence. Now, Google is giving advertisers a better way to see exactly what that AI is doing.
Google announced a new reporting feature for AI Max for Search campaigns that will provide a more complete view of a customer’s journey from search to website.
Instead of looking at pieces of campaign data separately, advertisers will be able to see:
- The search term that triggered the ad
- Which ad creative the customer saw
- The page of the website where Google sent that customer
Google says additional details and availability information for the new reporting view will be announced later this year.
Why This Matters for Small Businesses
AI Max uses Google’s AI to help Search campaigns reach relevant searches, customize ad copy and, when enabled, select a website landing page that it believes best matches what someone is looking for.
That automation can be powerful—but businesses still need to understand what is happening behind the scenes.
The new reporting makes it easier to answer an important question:
What did someone search for, what message did they see, and where did they land on my website?
That information can help businesses identify ads and website pages that are working well—and spot areas that need improvement.
Your Website and Advertising Are More Connected Than Ever
One of the most interesting parts of AI Max is Google’s Final URL Expansion feature.
Instead of always sending someone to a predetermined landing page, Google can select another relevant page from the website when its system believes that page better matches the person’s search.
That makes the quality and organization of the entire website increasingly important.
Clear service pages, useful content, strong headlines and well-organized information don’t just help website visitors. They also give search engines and AI-powered advertising systems better information to work with.
A great advertising campaign can’t completely compensate for a confusing or outdated website.
AI Doesn’t Mean “Set It and Forget It”
We’re excited about what AI can do for small-business marketing, but automation still needs human oversight.
Businesses should continue reviewing:
- Which searches are generating traffic
- What advertising messages are being shown
- Which website pages visitors are reaching
- Whether those pages accurately represent the business
- Whether visitors are taking the desired next step
AI can help make advertising smarter and more efficient. The goal should still be the same: connect the right customer with the right message and make it easy for them to take action.
